Recent news about affordable housing you can use

Lottery Highlights

Community Development Corporations, city officials and affordable housing advocates actively seek new applicants  for apartment lotteries and waitlists. When there are hundreds of Affordable Rental Units announced, there could be 100 applications returned for each one, or thousands to a development with just 30 or less affordable units.

As you know these new construction projects can be highly sought after for there is demand for qualified tenants in the market rate space as well as in the income restricted and public, subsidized, low-income space. I need not tell you how competitive it can be The LOTTERY evens the playing field when it works the right wa – that is — when there are no backroom or politically influenced deals made.

But as you know, some applications are dead on arrival due to missing information or simply that the person applying is not qualified to apply. Lottery is bidding, Know that 50% of a winning formula is Showing Up; 25% is luck and you need it, so 75% of your lottery placement score is probably going to be determined by the fit of your family to the available unit size and scope of the project; your credit score is a big deal, your landlord history is a big deal, and  your proven ability to pay the rent no matter how high or low it is, is a very big deal.

Here’s a quick summary of recent affordable priced lotteries and home ownership sales.

Happy Chinese New Year from AboutBlackBoston.com

Entrance to Boston Chinatown

Happy New Year!

Chinatown/South End Collaborative launched an effort last year to increase local and minority hiring at new retail stores in the neighborhood. Led by the Chinese Progressive Association, the effort included the Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center, Castle Square Tenants Organization, Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción, Massachusetts Worker Education Roundtable and BEST Corp. In total, 108 new hires were made with 64% living in the City of Boston with 19% living in the Chinatown and South End area.  The new hires are also particularly diverse with 75% of them being people of color. Asian Americans are 26% of new hires.

This publisher owned a media marketing company named Big Dug Media Marketing with Xiaoqing Cao. Eventually, BigDug.co.uk bought our bigdug.com web site domain name for a price we couldn’t refuse,  but for three years, we worked on a number of public awareness projects and one of those was related to the development of The Big Dig I-90 and I-93 Depressed Central Artery Tunnel System near Boston Chinatown. Here’s a video story from 2007..

Our ticket selling capacity

Brownpaper Tickets was the first effective grass roots business model for an online ticket reseller capable of providing authentic event tickets we’ve come to know. Thanks to BPT, we were able to experience a variety of arts events from Boston to California as media, without having to pay for them. But when the venue wanted donations, we donated.

Smallwall.net is exploring ways to sell tickets for things no one has thought about before. Our channel will be Boston area brick and mortars so you can get them where you regularly shop.  When we make it work for you and us, then its going to be a good thing.

stay tuned

thanks

Cities near water drive economies all around

Ever wonder how cities like London, Boston, New York, Seattle, Los Angeles, Philadephia, Trenton, Norfolk Va and other like them became the economic drivers of their regional economies?

It started this way …

In early America, Puritans from Boston England arrived on North American shores and established a colony which grew into a community, then a city.

On the [geography.howstuffworks.com] web site they say original settlements grew into cities built as trading centers or as forts to defend strategic locations.

For this reason, most major cities are on rivers or harbors, or at the junction of important overland routes. They have developed strong military forces  which   added to their territory wealth and importance by conquest.

Then settlements often became large and prosperous through commerce.

Some, such as Athens, became centers of culture. Does the United States have a center of culture or is it under the center of culture, aka, the Internet?

A huge city of today is the creation of the Industrial Revolution. Factories need communities and people, transportation lanes, materials and sources of power.

Water makes power. Politics is the control of a limited amount of resources.

Chew on that a bit, there’s more to this story.

Cities near water are economic drivers all around.
